Shannon Maag Appointed To Library Board

The council unanimously approved the appointment of Shannon Maag to the Jerseyville Public Library Board of Trustees. Maag will fill the unexpired term of Steve LeBlanc, with her term to expire on June 30, 2028.

Mayor Kevin Stork explained that since LeBlanc is now a Jersey County resident instead of a Jerseyville city resident, he is no longer eligible to serve on the library board. Stork thanked LeBlanc for his service and expressed confidence Maag will “do a good job” in her new role on the board.

Council members also approved an environmental remediation grant application for asbestos removal at 108 South State St.

Property owner Nate Blasa said the building will be the future permanent home of Restorative Solutions Counseling, which had previously rented other locations around town. Future plans for the property include renovating the second-story apartments and uncovering the upper windows, with further facade work likely.

Council OKs Removal Of “Top Three” Derelict Structures

A bid to remove three vacant residential structures deemed “unsafe” was also approved unanimously.

The $50,417 bid was awarded to Bunker Hill-based GreenTrac, LLC for removal of the following structures: 501 W. Pine St., 201 Morean St., and 407 Linden St.

Building & Zoning Director Derek Russell said these represent the city’s top three structures in the “worst” condition. He said property owners have been properly notified, but noted the process has taken a while.

Stork said the city has budgeted $100,000 for the removal of unsafe vacant structures in 2026, which leaves $49,583 for the city to pursue other structure removals this year.
