Anthony B. Newcome, 25, of Bethalto, was charged in Jersey County court on July 16, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under 13 years old.
On July 14, 2026, Newcome allegedly committed an act of sexual conduct against a minor victim. The victim’s exact age has not been made public as no date of birth was listed for the victim in charging documents.
A petition to deny Newcome’s pretrial release from custody was filed by the Jersey County State’s Attorney’s Office and was later granted by the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court of Jersey County.
According to a Detention Order filed in this case, the victim’s statements during an interview at a Child Advocacy Center were consistent with disclosures they had made to family regarding instances of sexual conduct taking place on July 14, 2026.
When interviewed, Newcome reportedly admitted to “going too far” and committing an act of sexual conduct with the minor victim. The Detention Order also notes video from the victim’s bedroom shows Newcome entering before obstructing the camera’s view “to continue inappropriate conduct with a child.”
Newcome was arrested by the Jersey County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Jersey County Jail on July 14, 2026, where he currently remains in custody. He has also been ordered to have no contact or communication with the minor victim in this case until otherwise ordered by the court.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
