Explorers Edge Panthers In Tight Second Set In Volleyball Match At JCHS

JERSEY - Marquette Catholic won the junior varsity and varsity volleyball matches against Jerseyville last night at JCHS, while the freshman Panthers took their match in three sets as Jersey Community High School opened its home season against Marquette.

At the varsity level, Marquette won in two sets, 25-12, 25-23. Jersey faced a tough opening set but rallied in the second before narrowly falling.

Marquette standouts included senior Stella Frost with seven digs; Mia Moore with seven kills; and senior Brooke Keller with nine assists.

The freshman Panthers dropped the first set before battling back for a 19-21, 21-12, 15-8 victory.

Marquette’s junior varsity team won in two sets, with the Explorers taking the match 25-19, 25-18.

Marquette resumes action at home against Maryville Christian on Sept. 10 and then plays at home against Greenville at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, and at home on Sept. 14 against Hillsboro.

Breese Central travels to Jersey on Thursday, Sept. 10, for its next matchup, and Jersey hosts Southwestern on Monday, Sept. 14.
