JERSEYVILLE – A woman from Jerseyville charged with setting a fire inside an occupied apartment complex was recently brought into custody.
Stephanie D. Monroe, 52, of Jerseyville, was charged in Jersey County court on Sept. 25, 2026 with a Class 1 felony count of attempted aggravated arson.

Monroe is accused of committing arson by burning a section of carpet within an occupied apartment complex on Sept. 18, 2026.
At the time of the offense, charging documents state multiple occupied apartment units were located adjacent to the scene of the arson. These includes two occupied units above the apartment and a third occupied apartment to the south.
A warrant was issued for Monroe’s arrest the same day she was charged. The Jerseyville Police Department arrested Monroe on Sept. 30, 2026 and she was booked into the Jersey County Jail, where she currently remains in custody pending trial.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
