The investigation began in April 2025 after the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received information that Carlton was involved in distributing methamphetamine in the county, according to the sheriff’s office.
Calhoun Sheriff Zach Hardin led the investigation, which included surveillance and interviews with people involved. Multiple search warrants related to suspected methamphetamine sales were executed at various locations in Calhoun County.
Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were seized and submitted to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis. No laboratory results were provided.
The sheriff’s office said Carlton had avoided apprehension on the outstanding warrants before state police troopers arrested him.
“The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office will continue to take an aggressive and proactive stance against the illicit use and sale of methamphetamine and other narcotics,” Hardin said. “Our office will do everything in our power to keep these illicit substances off our streets. Those who may consider selling or transporting these substances within our borders can expect to be investigated, pursued and arrested.”
