The boys’ cross country team are recognized as the Tom Lane State Farm Insurance Male Athletes of the Month for CM.
Jake Peal, head coach for Civic Memorial boys cross country, reflected on the achievement, saying, “CM had never finished in the top 10 in cross country as a program. To finish ninth today is really humbling. We had four of those seven guys on the starting line, seniors, two juniors — one of the most veteran teams in the field.
"We have had our fair share of struggles at Detweiller, but we were able to go out and move up well between miles 2 and 3. I am really proud of all the boys who moved the team up to ninth. That says a lot about the back half of guys fighting for their team position. We had five guys under 16, and our seventh at 16:20, five of seven lifetime PRs. We couldn’t have peaked at any better time.”
Coach Peal expressed optimism for the future, noting, “It was a great race by all today. More to come from these outstanding young men this spring in track and field.”
