On Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, community members gathered at Firemen’s Park for a groundbreaking ceremony. The entertainment pavilion will encourage the community to come together for events and attract people from across the region to Maryville.
“This project represents a major step forward,” said Mayor Wayne White. “It’s almost kind of overwhelming. You have this dream and this vision, and you’ve worked so hard for so long, and now to see it come to fruition, it’s almost surreal. We’re excited.”
The groundbreaking ceremony represented over five years of planning. When the Julius Zupan American Legion Post #917 closed a few years ago, members donated the remainder of the post’s money — over $50,000 — to the village for the construction of an entertainment pavilion.
The Parks and Recreation Department collaborated with the village and American Legion members to create the plans for the pavilion. The pavilion will be dedicated to American Legion Post #917, with the post number “proudly displayed” on the front of the stage, White said.
He expressed his appreciation for the American Legion Post #917 members and the many village officials who have worked toward the pavilion’s construction, adding that it wouldn't be possible without their dedication to the project.
White hopes the pavilion becomes a site for community events and experiences. He also believes it could boost tourism and attract people from across the Metro East.
“We have the ability to have more community events than we’ve ever had before,” he said. “When you have more people coming to your town for entertainment or whether it be something with the arts, a play or something like that, it builds community spirit, but also, it helps build our town in other ways. They’re spending their money right here in Maryville. We see this as an attraction regionally, not just for our town.”
Construction will be completed by early April 2026. White hopes the village can host a major celebration on Memorial Day to inaugurate the pavilion and commemorate the country’s 250th birthday in Maryville. He noted his appreciation for the people of Maryville and their devotion to building a strong community.
“It’s just another example of how, when a community really buys in, when a community really works together, you can achieve anything,” he added.
