BURBANK - The East St. Louis Flyers football team will return to the IHSA Class 6A final next Saturday afternoon after taking a 37-0 halftime lead and going on to win over Burbank St. Laurence Catholic 50-7 in a semifinal game played Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2025, at Cavanaugh Stadium in Burbank.The reward for the Flyers is a date in the championship game against Oak Park Fenwick Catholic, who defeated LaGrange Park Nazareth Academy 28-27 in overtime, next Saturday in Bloomington-Normal.
The Flyers scored first on a three-yard run by Ahmad Coleman to go ahead 7-0, then on the next Viking possession, a blocked punt out of then end zone by Jabari Lofton resulted in a safety to increase the East Side lead to 9-0 after one quarter, On the first play of the second quarter, Myson Johnson-Cook ran in from 11 yards to increase the lead to 16-0. The Flyers got a seven-yard run from Johnson-Cook for another score to make it 23-0 with 6:51 left in the first half.

Coleman ran in from four yards out for his second touchdown of the day to make the score 30-0 for East Side, and Johnson-Cook rounded out the first half scoring with a 13-yard run to make the score 37-0 for the Flyers at halftime.
St. Laurence got on the board in the third quarter on a fourth-and-goal play to cut the lead to 37-7 with 4:16 left, but the Flyers got the touchdown back on the next possession on a four-yard run up the middle by Johnson-Cook, his fourth touchdown of the afternoon, to make it 43-7 after the conversion missed. In the fourth quarter, Coleman completed the scoring when he went off on a 69-yard touchdown run with 6:36 left to make the final score 50-7.
The Vikings conclude their season 8-5, while the Flyers are now 10-3, and meet Fenwick next Saturday in the Class 6A championship game at Hancock Stadium on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal. The kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
