“It is really just showcasing our holiday spirit,” said owner Darci Ward. “All of the kiddos wear Christmas pajamas. We make it real comfy and cozy. This year, the theme is ‘Cozy Christmas,’ so holiday pajamas and just a laidback, good, spirited time.”

Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door or at any of the DK Dance locations. As the recitals conclude, Santa Claus, Buddy the Elf, and the DK Dance bear mascot will take the stage to wish everyone a happy holiday season.
This year’s recital marks the tenth anniversary for the Holiday Show. As a dance company, DK Dance Productions will be entering their 20th season.
Ward explained that she opened DK Dance Productions in 2006 to spread her love of dance and cheer. In addition to their three dance studios in Alton, Florissant and Jerseyville, they offer a cheer facility in Cottage Hills.
“We teach ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, tumbling, poms, cheer, musical theater, pointe — all of the genres of dance,” Ward explained. “What athletics can give you is something really incredible: that drive, that competitive spirit, diligence, all of those things. I think we’re hoping to teach and not necessarily just make great dancers or cheerleaders or tumblers, but make great people.”
Ward began dancing at age 3; at DK Dance Productions, they have classes for kids as young as 18 months. They aim to create dancers who enjoy the sport and grow into well-rounded, empowered adults.

As the holiday recitals approach, Ward hopes to provide a fun experience for both the dancers and audiences. She noted that the goal of the Holiday Show is to enjoy the holiday spirit and celebrate another successful year of dance and cheer while encouraging the athletes to show off their hard work.
“Really, our mission is always to not just make great dancers and athletes, but make great kids to put back out into our communities and really serve all of our communities that we’re in,” she added. “We love to have the community come out and see our kiddos and cheer them on. Having that support from all of our communities is always very important to us.”
