GODFREY - At the recent Breakfast With Santa event, Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick reflected on a great year in Godfrey.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, community members gathered for the 21st annual Breakfast With Santa event, sponsored by the North Alton-Godfrey Business Council. McCormick, a former business owner, emphasized the importance of groups like NAGBC and their efforts to support the community through events like this.

“Anybody that has small kids that did not come to Breakfast With Santa this year, you need to plan on coming next year,” he added. “I’ve come year after year for quite a few years. Some of these kids are growing up. Actually, I just ran into a lady that worked for me when I used to own Imo’s a long, long time ago, and she’s got kids that are probably at least in the seventh or eighth grade, which made me feel a little bit ancient.”

McCormick said there are “a lot of good things happening” in Godfrey and throughout the Riverbend region. He and his wife, Linda, attended Godfrey’s Snowflake Festival on Dec. 5, and they were planning to complete their Christmas shopping at local small businesses later on Dec. 6. It’s important to McCormick to support the community in this way.

He expressed his gratitude to the Parks and Recreation Department for a successful Snowflake Festival, and he commended the Street Department for their work to clear the roads following the region’s recent snowfall. He also thanked the community for their patience and reminded people to move their cars off the streets so plows can go through as the Riverbend prepares for a snow-heavy winter.

“As far as the Christmas holiday, I hope for good weather. I know everybody’s happy to see the snow on the ground,” he said. “I don’t want a white Christmas. I just want a happy Christmas.”

McCormick added that he has “a good relationship” with the mayors of surrounding towns, and he highlighted the benefits of supporting one another going forward. He believes the Riverbend area is a great spot to live. He offered well wishes for the community as the holidays approach.

“I think the whole Riverbend area is a choice place to be residing in,” he said. “We’ve got to work as a community, all of us. If you’re talking about Godfrey, Alton, East Alton, Wood River, we’re all part of the Riverbend…I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everybody in the Riverbend area a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
