“We were tied 36-36 going into the fourth quarter. They are a really good team, basically top of our conference the last three to four years,” Civic Memorial coach Lee Green said. “Going in, we believed we could win. We were tied at one point and felt really good about it. We turned it over a couple of times in a row in the fourth quarter, and it became a four-point game and snowballed with a 14-0 run by them in the fourth quarter. We didn’t score, we ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, but our kids played so hard.”
Civic Memorial jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on a basket by junior Charlie Kirkpatrick and a three-pointer by Grady Ferrell. Ferrell added another three to extend the Eagles’ lead to 8-2. The Eagles chipped away further in the third quarter, with baskets from Zangori and free throws by Riley Lamb narrowing Triad’s lead to 31-27. A three-pointer by Zangori cut the lead to 33-30, but free throws by Tyler Thompson kept Triad ahead 35-30. Ferrell’s three-pointer and Tanner Hokamp’s basket brought the Eagles within one point at 36-35 before a free throw by Lamb tied the game at 36-36 heading into the final quarter.
Triad’s Lucas Thompson opened the fourth quarter with a basket to give the Knights a 38-36 lead. Keller and Tyler Thompson contributed to extending the advantage, with Lucas Thompson scoring again to make it 46-36. Thompson’s final basket sealed the 52-36 victory.
