Person of Interest Detained in Dual Cahokia Heights Homicides

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS — Authorities have taken a person of interest into custody in connection with two homicides that occurred on the 3900 block of Walnut Street in Cahokia Heights.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis announced the arrest on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation into the incidents. No charges have been filed at this time.

Investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis discovered the body of a woman during the execution of a search warrant connected to a shooting incident in the 3900 block of Walnut Street on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.

The woman was identified as 44-year-old Laniya Joyce White of East St. Louis. She was discovered inside the residence with apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Major Case Squad.

The initial shooting victim, Bruce A. Mason, 67, of Maryville, Illinois, was transported to a hospital but was pronounced deceased, officials confirmed.

Since the investigation began, authorities have pursued more than 75 leads, according to the Major Case Squad.

Officials continue to gather information and are asking anyone with knowledge related to the case to contact the Major Case Squad Command Post at (618) 337-9507 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477). Tips can be submitted anonymously.
