Like many small businesses in the downtown Alton shopping district, Elysian Gallery has created a special experience for the 17th annual Alton Eagle Ice Festival. Throughout Friday, Jan. 2, and Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, community members can stop by the gallery located in Mineral Springs Mall to see photos by nature photographer Lonnie Gatlin.
Gatlin has over 30 years of photography experience. She has received recognition by the International Photography Hall of Fame, the American Red Cross, and more. Jeff Bohnert, Elysian Gallery’s curator and a photographer himself, believes Gatlin’s eagle photography will be a “highlight” of the Eagle Ice Festival.
“We’re excited to open our doors for Eagle Ice Fest and share the work of photographers who capture the spirit of this region,” Bohnert said.
The gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, and Saturday, Jan. 3. They might keep their doors open later if they receive a lot of guests.
The Alton Eagle Ice Festival will feature free activities at FLOCK Food Truck Park, the Audubon Center at Riverlands, and the National Great Rivers Museum. Several small businesses will also offer deals, discounts and more fun as part of the event. If you get your Eagle Ice Festival passport stamped at three locations by making a $10 purchase, you will receive a free gift.
