PIASA - Southwestern senior Bram Buettel has distinguished himself both on the soccer field and in cross country, while maintaining strong academic performance, according to Coach Steve Mitchell.
Buettel, a senior and team captain, played a versatile role in soccer, serving as a center midfielder and contributing both offensively and defensively. He is an Altonized Community Federal Credit Union Male Athlete of the Month for the Piasa Birds.

Coach Mitchell described him as "a good athlete and good student," adding that Buettel is "an all-around good athlete [who] controls everything" on the field. His leadership qualities have been evident since he assumed the captaincy.
In addition to soccer, Buettel competed in cross country for the Piasa Birds during the fall season. He qualified for the sectional meet with a time of 18 minutes, 21.5 seconds at the IHSA 1A Regional held at Trenton-Wesclin and improved his time to 18:10.8 at the IHSA Sectional at the same location. He also set a personal record in the two-mile race at East Alton-Wood River with a time of 11:44.1.
Coach Mitchell praised Buettel's ability to balance the demands of multiple sports alongside his academic responsibilities, stating that he "did an excellent job of juggling the soccer, cross country, and academic loads in the fall."
