Harman Family Bluegrass Band Brings Community Together for 48th Annual Show

GODFREY - The Harman family will once again come together for the 48th Annual Harman Family Bluegrass Show.

Hosted by the Harman Family Bluegrass Band, the show is a beloved January tradition for many people in the Riverbend region. This year’s performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at Hatheway Cultural Center at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey.

“You can expect nearly a couple of hours of good bluegrass, gospel and country music, as we have for the last 47 years,” said Mike Harman, the family’s patriarch. “That’s what we try to do: make them forget what they’re doing tomorrow and have as much fun as going to Branson and not having to spend the time nor the money to stay down there and buy expensive tickets.”

The Harman Family Bluegrass Band is made up of Mike, his wife Stacy, their children John and Mark and their families. Mike and Stacy’s son Jeff, though mostly retired from performing, will also join them for a few songs.

Lori Cummins, Mike’s sister, has performed with the band over the years and now loves watching her “very, very talented” nephews take the stage. She noted that the bluegrass, country and gospel music draws people from across the region to come enjoy an evening of community and tradition.

“It’s the music I grew up with,” Cummins said. “I like all kinds of music, but this is what I grew up with, this and gospel and a little bit of big band. It’s fun music, and there's nothing better than family. If you’re going to do music, it’s really neat to be able to do it with your family.”

Cummins added that the family feel extends beyond blood, as some people have been attending the show for 40-plus years. She expressed her gratitude for both the returning customers and the newcomers who find value in the show year after year.

“The audience that we have out there is just like family as well,” she said. “I’m glad that they love the music and that they can support us in that over all these years.”

Mike and Cummins hope to see the show reach 50 years, though they’re both proud of the 48-year milestone. They believe the show is similar to something you could watch in Branson, but offered right here in the Riverbend.

Mike added that the show offers plenty of variety and fun for all involved, and he looks forward to sharing his music and family with the community he loves. He encourages people to get their tickets now so you can come out and enjoy the show.

“It’s a real variety-packed show. If you don’t like something we do, you don’t like music,” he joked. “It’s something for the family and has been, and that’s what we built it on. We’ve been doing it for quite some time, and anytime we can get new people coming, we feel like we’re doing something.”
