BETHALTO — Civic Memorial’s boys basketball team came up just short Friday night, falling 57-54 to Mascoutah in a closely contested Mississippi Valley Conference matchup at home.

The teams were deadlocked at 17-17 after the first quarter before Mascoutah carried a slim 30-28 lead into halftime. The back-and-forth battle continued in the third quarter, with Mascoutah maintaining a narrow 44-41 advantage heading into the final period.

Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, but Mascoutah did just enough down the stretch to secure the three-point victory.

Civic Memorial was led by Lukus Zangori with a game-high 23 points, while Charlie Kilpatrick added 14 points.

Mascoutah was paced by Camron Lowery’s 21 points, with Michael King contributing 13.
