GIRLS BASKETBALL
MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 54, CENTRALIA CHRIST OUR ROCK LUTHERAN 8: In a Gateway Metro Conference game at Marquette Family Arena, Marquette led COR at halftime 28-2, and went on to win.
Maggie Pruetzer led the Explorers with 15 points, while Jami Jones added eight points.
Marquette is now 11-5, while the Silver Stallions fall to 0-11.
BREESE CENTRAL 58, ROXANA 21: Host Central led at halftime 31-9, and went on to defeat the Shells in a Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division game.
Daisy Daugherty led the Shells with seven points, while Leah Newton came up with five points.
The Cougars are now 16-2, while Roxana goes to 8-10.
COLUMBIA 62, CENTRALIA 56 (OT): Columbia led at the interval 23-18, but Centralia came back to tie at the end of regulation 50-50. The Eagles outscored the Orphan Annies in the extra period 12-6 to take the win.
Both Addison Dewilde and Ava Mathews led Columbia with 17 points each, while Kinley Jany had 15 points, and Riley Lahr added 11 points.
The Eagles are now 12-6, while Centralia slips to 8-11.
FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 62, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 35: In another GMC game, McGivney led from wire-to-wire to win over Althoff at Glenn Schott Center.
Elle Willenborg led the Griffins with 12 points, while Zoie Oller scored 11 points.
McGivney is now 16-4, while the Crusaders are now 5-9.
JERSEY 44, GILLESPIE 38: Jersey led Gillespie at halftime 31-18, then held off a furious Gillespie rally in the third quarter to win at Havens Gym.
Meredith Gray led the Panthers with 13 points, while Makenna Brunaugh added 10 points.
Jersey is now 11-8, while the Miners go to 12-8.
In other games played on Monday, Nashville upended Carlyle 57-39, Mascoutah won over Belleville West 37-35, Waterloo won over Cahokia 65-14, Waterloo Gibault Catholic took a 54-36 win over St. Louis Miller Career Academy, Teutopolis won at home over Civic Memorial 64-43, Breese Mater Dei Catholic won at Freeburg 70-61. and in a tournament opener, Winchester West Central defeated White Hall North Greene 52-37.
BOYS BASKETBALL
In the area's only game played on Monday, at the Chester Tournament, Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Valle Catholic defeated Lebanon 55-41.
