BETHALTO - Precision Point Armory offers firearm training to create responsible gun owners.

Ben Julian, owner of Precision Point, emphasizes safety in everything he does. His classes range from basic fundamentals to concealed carry classes. Julian ultimately wants to make sure people are safe when handling firearms.

“It’s a lot of fun. We enjoy just practicing different things and different skills,” he said. “I really enjoy working with newer people, but I also enjoy working with people that want to make their skills better.”

Whether you’re completely new to firearms or an experienced shooter, Julian is happy to work with you to improve your skills and understanding of how to handle and use a firearm.

He offers a variety of classes, including a fundamentals course, two-day concealed carry classes on weekends and weekdays, and one-on-one shooting training.

He also has a three-part training program that covers the basics. With this program, students start with plastic pistols and then use SIRT training pistols and a virtual reality shooting system to become more comfortable handling firearms. Eventually, they move on to live ammunition at the range.

“Usually by this point, I can get people to where they’re not even scared anymore, but they’re very respectful and responsible with their firearm,” Julian shared.

In all of his classes, he encourages people to only use their firearms if they absolutely must. Julian is unlike other instructors, who might be more “gung-ho” about using firearms. Instead, he urges caution and preparation above all else.

“I’ve never actually been in that situation, and I hope I never get to that situation,” he explained. “But it’s a split-second decision. You have approximately three to five seconds to make that decision if you should use that right to protect yourself. One thing I teach in my class is, if it’s even questionable, if you have to think about it, if you have to think about is it worth going to jail, is it worth certain things, then it’s not justifiable.”

Beyond the classes, Julian and his wife offer couples’ dates at the range, perfect for Valentine’s Day. He can also provide a home security assessment where he goes to your home and shows you where your security is lacking and how to improve it.

Looking ahead, Julian hopes to rent a bay of six shooting lanes at a local indoor range this year. He also plans to offer free kids’ classes to teach gun safety to children. His priority is making sure people are comfortable and safe around firearms.

He added that he has received a lot of positive feedback from students who walk away feeling more confident about how and when to use their firearm. His goal is to provide an enjoyable, educational experience for all.

“One student stated how he liked how I didn’t make things political. That’s one thing I like to not do,” he said. “That stuff can stay elsewhere. We’re there to talk about safety and make responsible firearm owners that take safety seriously. But I want people to enjoy it and have fun.”
