Our Daily Show Interview! Mayor Wayne White: A Look Ahead of Maryville 2026

MARYVILLE - The Village of Maryville has an exciting year ahead, according to Mayor Wayne White.

Mayor Wayne White.

White recently stopped by “Our Daily Show!” with C.J. Nasello to detail Maryville’s upcoming infrastructure projects, appreciation programs and more. He is proud of the town and eager to share their efforts with the larger Riverbend region.

“In smaller communities like ours, we have a lot going on despite the fact that we don’t have the population that some of our neighboring communities do,” White said. “A lot of what we have in the hopper right now are big infrastructure projects that we’re working on.”

First and foremost is a roundabout that will be installed at the intersection of Keebler Road and Route 162. White explained that this intersection has “horrible traffic congestion” and was once the site of a fatal car accident. The new roundabout should be open by summer 2026.

Keebler Road is also undergoing a resurfacing project, currently in its third phase. This project is funded completely by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Sidewalks along West Main Street are getting a facelift as construction crews work to make them ADA-compliant. White noted that West Main Street sees a lot of foot traffic, so the sidewalk construction is important to community members. He emphasized the value of these infrastructure projects in Maryville.

“A lot of times, people, when they look at communities, quantify the growth of a community based on stores and businesses that are bright and shiny and new. Of course, those are all great things,” White said. “But really, the backbone of communities is our infrastructure, our police department, and our fire department. And I’m very proud to say that we have great first responders. We have an incredibly safe community and also — I don’t think anybody would argue — some of the most beautiful homes in the Metro East.”

White added that first responders and other Maryville residents can be honored through the Maryville Community Improvement Board, which gives out Good Neighbor Awards and organizes the Hometown Heroes banner project. Both of these initiatives aim to recognize Maryville residents who are doing good work for the community.

“These are people who are just being good neighbors. When we have the opportunity to give somebody a pat on the back and recognize them in a meeting for just being a good neighbor, I think that’s good for everybody in the community,” White said. “A hometown hero can be any citizen who just really is passionate about Maryville and does what they can to make the community and this town better…We just have so many people here in Maryville who want to give back out of the goodness of their hearts.”

In other news, the Maryville Heritage Museum has received a $400,000 grant from the state to improve the building. White also commended the Parks and Recreation Committee, which is working to install a disc golf course at Pleasant Ridge Park.

The current talk of the town, however, is the entertainment pavilion at Firemen’s Park. This pavilion should be ready to go in time for Saturday, May 23, 2026, before Memorial Day. This is when Maryville plans to inaugurate the pavilion through a Memorial Day celebration honoring the country’s 250th anniversary.

White is especially proud of the work being done at Firemen’s Park. He believes this construction will encourage community pride.

“When it’s all said and done, Firemen’s Park here in Maryville is like our town square,” he said. “It’s going to be completely revitalized. A lot of people are focusing on the pavilion itself where the bands play, but it’s much more than that. We have all new lighting, all new electrical coming in, new landscaping. It’s going to revitalize the park and really ignite our community.”

As White looks to the months ahead, he believes Maryville is on track for another great year. For more information and news about the Village of Maryville, you can visit the official town website at vil.maryville.il.us.
