JASIONKA, POLAND – On her official visit to Poland and Portugal this week, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) traveled to Poland’s border with Ukraine where she visited sites of joint NATO military logistical efforts that support Ukraine. At the Jasionka military base cluster, Duckworth underscored America’s bipartisan support for Ukraine and NATO, in the midst of Donald Trump’s escalating and increasingly erratic threats against Greenland. During her visit in Rzeszów, Duckworth discussed critical medical and humanitarian assistance efforts, including medical evacuation, military logistical deliveries and refugee support. Photos of Duckworth’s visit can be found on the Senator’s website.

“While he seems to change his mind on a whim, Donald Trump’s erratic threats to seize Greenland by force or coercion continue to threaten our national security and the security of our allies,” said Duckworth. “At a time when our allies across NATO have been steadily increasing their defense spending and leadership role in Ukraine, I’m proud to be here in Poland to reiterate bipartisan support for our NATO allies. No matter who is in the White House, there is a wide bipartisan majority here in the U.S. that stands firmly with all our NATO allies—and I will keep doing everything I can to ensure our alliance is as strong and capable as possible.”

In addition to highlighting the need for staying committed to NATO and sending additional U.S. security assistance to Ukraine, the Senator also met with medical professionals at the Jasionka MEDEVAC hub to talk about lessons learned from Ukraine when it comes to medical evacuation and care for military and civilian populations, as well as what we can do to build and strengthen medical capacity to support our allies and partners in future large-scale conflicts.

During her visit, Duckworth also met with Poland-based leaders of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and discussed her commitment to ensuring foreign aid continues, despite the Trump Administration continuing to slash funding for refugees. When Donald Trump began illegally dismantling USAID and freezing foreign assistance, Duckworth was an early and vocal critic who underscored these efforts undermine our national security, empowers our adversaries and jeopardizes Americans’ economic security.

Duckworth—a member of both the U.S. Senate Armed Services (SASC) and Foreign Services (SFRC) Committees—has been a strong supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion and has continuously pushed to help provide more assistance for Ukraine and has continued to meet with Illinoisans with ties to Ukraine. During her official visit to Sweden on the eve of the two-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2024, Duckworth delivered an in-person message emphasizing the United States’ strong support for Sweden’s accession and reaffirming our nation’s steadfast commitment to NATO and all its members.
