
GRANITE CITY — Granite City’s girls basketball team, led by Coach Ron Twitchell, enters the Carrollton Invitational with a 15-5 overall record and a noon matchup against Lincolnwood on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026.
The Warriors split their games earlier this week, losing 55-28 at home to Freeburg on Thursday, Jan. 22. Freeburg built a 43-12 halftime lead and maintained control to secure the victory.
Jailynn Rae Woods led Granite City with 13 points, while Malone Grady added 12 against Freeburg.
The Midgets improved to 18-6 with the win.
Earlier in the week, Granite City defeated Collinsville 40-27 in a challenging road game on Tuesday. Collinsville held a 5-2 lead after the first quarter and led 10-7 at halftime. However, Granite City outscored Collinsville 15-6 in the third quarter and 18-11 in the fourth to secure the win.
Coach Twitchell praised his team’s resilience following the Collinsville game. “The girls stuck together in a very tough environment,” he said. “I was very proud of the girls for the win.”
Granite City aims to build on its recent performances as it competes in the Carrollton Invitational this weekend and next week.
