On a positive note, Senior Miccah Butler led Edwardsville with 17 points, while junior Rowan Weller added 13 points as the Tigers bounced back nicely from a home loss to St. Louis Cardinal Ritter College Prep Catholic on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, with a vital 53-40 win at Decatur Eisenhower Friday night at the Eisenhower gym.

The Tigers have shown an ability to bounce back nicely from losses this season, and the win at Eisenhower was no exception, as Edwardsville played very well on the road.

"It was a hard-fought game on the road," said Tigers' head coach Dustin Battas, "and our guys played well to win. We got the lead early and then had a good start to the fourth quarter to extend the lead. Eisenhower is tough and athletic, and I thought our guys handled their pressure well. Miccah and Devyon (Hill-Lomax) rebounded well, and up top, helped us score around the basket. Rowan did a good job of taking what the defense gave him, getting it to the lane, and finishing or assisting.

"Overall, it was a very good team effort," Battas also said, "and an important bounce-back win after Tuesday night (a 49-40 loss to CPCP). I'm proud of the effort and the commitment. The guys are showing to make sure we put losses behind us and try to win he next one. Tucker (Lindstedt) had another very solid game, and is giving us a steady presence on offense and defense. We look forward to hosting Mascoutah on Tuesday at 6 p.m."

Butler hit a pair of threes, and Brady Niemi hit another three in the first quarter as Edwardsville took a 15-11 lead at quarter time, then extended the lead to 26-20 at the interval, thanks to baskets from both Weller and Butler. The Tigers extended their advantage to 34-30 after the third quarter, and were able to outscore the Panthers 19-10 in the final period to take the 53-40 win.

Butler led Edwardsville with 17 points, while Weller hit for 13 points, Niemi added nine points, Hill-Lomax scored seven points, LIndstedt had five points, and Matthew Wilson scored two points for the Tigers.

Eisenhower is now 3-12 on the season, while Edwardsville goes to 14-5, and hosts Mascoutah Tuesday night at 6 p.m., in the first half of a boys-girls doubleheader, then returns to the Southwestern Conference to play at Belleville West next Friday at 7:30 p.m., and hosts Staunton Feb. 3, also at 7:30 p.m.
