ROXANA — Roxana’s wrestling team secured eight sectional qualifiers Saturday at East Alton-Wood River Class 1A regional.

Roxana’s Brandon Green Jr. claimed the 144-pound championship by pinning Freeburg’s Lukas Quartz in the final match.
Logan Riggs followed with a 150-pound title after pinning Breese Central’s Matthew Walsh, while Lyndon Thies, the school’s all-time career victory leader, dominated the 175-pound final with a 19-1 technical fall over Freeburg’s Colt Hess.
In addition to the champions, Roxana qualified five more wrestlers for sectionals: Trey Skelton (second at 113 pounds), Brayden Hendrix (second at 120), Mason Crump (second at 190), Mason Davis (third at 106), and Rob Horton (third at 215).
Host East Alton-Wood River also had a sectional qualifier in Michael Soto, who placed second at 285 pounds after falling to Freeburg’s Jack Amann in the championship match.
Metro-East Lutheran’s Miles Dennis secured a third-place finish at 132 pounds with a 9-3 victory over Salem’s Joseph Oswalt, earning a spot at sectionals.
Belleville Althoff won the team competition with 236 points, followed by Freeburg with 203.5 points. Roxana finished third with 190.5 points.
The top three finishers in each weight class earned advancement to the upcoming Vandalia Individual Sectional.
