SATURDAY, JANUARY 31 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

BELLEVILLE EAST 68, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 54: East led Althoff at halftime 30-25, and went on to win in a crosstown rivalry game at Glenn Schott Center.

Kyle Johnson led the Crusaders with 18 points, while Luke Smith had 16 points, and Michael Franklin, Jr. scored 10 points.

The Lancers are now 9-14, while Althoff slips to 11-12.

COLUMBIA 47, PINCKNEYVILLE 45: In a shootout at Pinckneyville, the host Panthers led at the half 20-13, but Columbia came from behind to outscore Pinckneyville in the second half 36-25 to pull out the narrow win.

Brody Landgraf led the Eagles with 15 points, while Luke Dewilde came up with nine points.

Columbia is now 20-4, while the Panthers slide to 15-10.

In other games played on Saturday, at Pinckneyville, Masoutah won over Carbondale 55-54, Triad won over Freeburg 60-47, Okawville defeated Lebanon 59-47, and in another regular season game, Hardin Calhoun won over Griggsville-Perry 61-40.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ROXANA 43, GREENFIELD NORTHWESTERN 28: In the consolation bracket final at the 51st Carrollton Lady Hawk Invitational tournament's final day, Roxana took a 24-14 lead at the half and went on to take the win.

Daisy Daugherty led the Shells with 21 points, while Leah Newton came up with eight points.

Roxana is now 14-12, while the Tigers go to 10-12.

JERSEY 50, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 46: In the fifth-place game at Carrollton, Marquette led at halftime 30-20, but Jersey rallied in the second half to outscore the Explorers 30-16 to win the game.

Meredith Gray, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Panthers with 19 points, while both Cate Breden and Makenna Brunaugh scored 10 points each. Marquette was led by Laila Davis, with 13 points, while Delaney Ortman hit for 12 points.

Jersey is now 17-10, while the Explorers go to 15-9.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 61, CARROLLTON 32: In the third-place game, McGivney raced out to a 30-21 halftime lead, and held the lead the rest of the way to defeat the host Hawks.

Zoie Oller was the Griffins' top scorer with 20 points, while Elle Willenborg added 13 points, and Alexa Jones scored 12 points.

McGivney is now 21-6, while Carrollton goes to 17-8.

In the tournament final, top-seeded Liberty won the title over Winchester West Central 43-34.

In other games on Saturday, Freeburg shaded Hillsboro, Mo. 46-42, Breese Central defeated Teutopolis 59-39, Centralia bounced Collinsville 55-33, and Alton topped Chatham Glenwood 50-31.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 30 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

BOYS BASKETBALL

COLUMBIA 48, SALEM 39: Columbia led at home 26-20 at halftime, and went on to win over Salem.

Eddie Smajic led the Eagles with 22 points, while Brody Landgraf came up with 11 points.

Columbia is now 19-4, while the Wildcats tumble to 11-12.

COLLINSVILLE 56, BELLEVILLE EAST 36: Collinsville led at halftime 26-20, then pulled away in the second half to take the Southwestern Conference win at Vergil Fletcher Gym.

DeAndre Brown led the Kahoks with 14 points, while Jordan Taylor scored 12 points, and Jace Wilkinson had 10 points. Bryce Bennett was the top scorer for the Lancers with 10 points, with Kameron Eutsey scoring eight points.

Collinsville is now 9-14, while East goes to 8-14.

EAST ST. LOUIS 66, O'FALLON 58: O'Fallon held a narrow 24-23 lead at halftime, but East St. Louis rallied in the second half to outscore the Panthers in the second half 43-34 to take the win at the OTHS Panther Dome.

Jamison White led the Flyers with 26 points, while Alex Johnson added 14 points, and Devrice Johnson scored 11 points.

East Side is now 21-3, while O'Fallon goes to 5-15.

JACKSONVILLE ROUTT CATHOLIC 69, WHITE HALL NORTH GREENE 31: In a WIVC game at the North Greene gym, Routt led all the way through to take a win over the host Spartans.

Porter Dossett led North Greene with 11 points, while Evan Scott added four points.

The Rockets improve to 19-3, while the Spartans are now 4-14.

STAUNTON 68, CARLINVILLE 42: Staunton led Carlinville at the half 29-27, then pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Cavaliers 39-15 to take the South Central Conference win at the Carlinville Big House.

Isiah Laux led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while Bryce Coalson added 12 points. Carinville's leading scorer was Sawyer Smith, with 13 points, while both Cameron Cooper and Tristan Thompson scored eight points each.

Staunton is now 20-1, while the Cavies go to 12-10.

PANA 56, SOUTHWESTERN 49: Pana led at the interval 23-21, then held off a comeback attempt by Southwestern to take the SCC win on the road.

Both Trenton Brackett and Cason Robinson led the Piasa Birds with 11 points each, while Carter Bacon came up with eight points.

The Panthers are now 15-9, while Southwestern is now 11-12.

In other games played on Friday night, Alton won over Metro-East Lutheran 83-56, Trenton Wesclin defeated Red Bud 66-50, Highland turned back Jersey 42-31, Breese Central won over visiting Roxana 63-50, Mascoutah shaded Waterloo 50-47, Edwardsville bounced back to win at Belleville West 44-41, New Athens knocked off Steeeville 74-60, Freeburg won over East Alton-Wood River 61-38, and Hardin Calhoun won at Carrollton 77-66.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ROXANA 44, CALHOUN 35: In the 51st Carrollton Lady Hawk Invitational tournament, Roxana and Calhoun were level at halftime 16-16, but the Shells outscored the Warriors in the second half 28-19 to take the win, and advance to the consolation final.

Ava Cherry was Roxana's top scorer with 17 points, while Tatum Shaw came up with 10 points.

JERSEY 48, GRANITE CITY 46: In the first fifth place semifinal of the Lady Hawk Invitational, Jersey held a 28-26 lead at halftime, with Granite City taking a 3936 advantage at three-quarter time. The Panthers came back and took the narrow win to move into the fifth place game.

Cate Breden led Jersey with 20 points, while Meredith Gray came up with 15 points. The Warriors were led by Jailynn Rae Woods 21 points, while Tyhlee Simms scored 10 points.

The Panthers are now 16-10, while Granite goes to 16-7.

In the second fifth-place semifinal, Marquette Catholic won over Nokomis 46-41.

CIVIC MEMORIAL 55, TRIAD 45: Triad came back from a first-quarter deficit to trail CM at the half 26-25, but the Eagles held off the Knights' challenge and won the Mississippi Valley Conference match-up at the CM gym.

Isabella Edwards led CM with 22 points, while Marlee Durbin came up with 18 points. Triad's top scorer was Juliette Duff, with 17 points, while Kenzie Becker scored eight points.

The Eagles are now 18-7, while the Knights are now 15-9.

In the rest of Friday's fixtures, Freeburg won over Bonne Terre, Mo. North County 67-47, Waterloo defeated Mascoutah 56-34, and Barry Western won over White Hall North Greene 44-25.
