Mayor Kevin Stork gave a brief update on the city’s search for new trash and recycling options at the Feb. 3, 2026 Jerseyville City Council meeting. This comes after several residents spoke out against an exclusive city-wide contract for residential trash pickup at a packed public hearing last month.
Jerseyville residents have long requested some type of recycling service, which partially prompted city officials to pursue an exclusive trash contract which would include recycling. After hearing the public’s concerns about letting one company monopolize the local trash market, city officials are considering other possible ways to offer recycling.
“Based on the feedback, we are looking to get pricing on what it would be to add recycling out at the city [dump] site,” Stork said. “Whatever that cost is, that’s what we’ll be pricing everything at for all residents.”
Stork said the city continues to evaluate all possible options and encourages residents to keep sharing their feedback on the potential advantages or disadvantages of adding recycling services to the city dump site.
