
JERSEYVILLE – With early voting officially underway, here’s a look at the Jersey County candidates running in the March 17, 2026 primary elections.

Two Republican candidates are seeking a spot as the next Jersey County Treasurer. Jonathan Goetten is challenging current Treasurer Rebecca Strang, who was appointed to fill a vacancy left by the previous treasurer, Katie Abbey, before she was charged with stealing over $10,000 in county funds for her personal use.
The most crowded race in Jersey County is for the County Board, where 13 candidates will compete for only six open seats on the board.
Incumbent Republican Chairman Gary Krueger is seeking re-election for District 4, which has two open seats; other candidates running in this district include Republican Douglas B. Figge Jr. and Democrats Bryan Lankford and Alan Milton.
Another two seats are up for grabs in District 3, which five candidates are competing for. These include incumbent Kara Ontis and three other Republicans: Kevin Roundcount, Barbara Senger-Bollinger, and Craig Thomas Sondker, as well as Democrat William Goetten.
Districts 1 and 2 both have two candidates competing for one open seat. District 1’s incumbent Republican David Crone has filed, as has Democrat Marci Collins. In District 2, incumbent Republican Jared Mills and Democrat challenger Fredricka “Freddy” Hatfill have also filed.
Republican Peggy A. Portwood is running uncontested in the Jersey County Clerk race to replace current County Clerk Pam Warford.
Early voting is open until Election Day on March 17, 2026 at the Jersey County Clerk’s Office at 200 N. Lafayette Street in Jerseyville. Early voting hours are from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The last day for regular voter registration or to transfer registration is on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026. New registrants or those with a change of address can also register during a “grace period” from Feb. 13 to March 17, 2026, but most vote at the County Clerk’s Office.
