CM jumped out to an early lead and held a 16-10 advantage after the first quarter. The Eagles appeared to take full control in the second quarter, extending their lead to 35-19 at halftime.
“The first thing we talked about in the locker room was the third quarter,” CM coach Jeff Durbin said. “We knew Mater Dei was either going to make adjustments or come out throwing punches, and they did. They got two quick baskets and made it a game again.”
Mater Dei began chipping away early in the third quarter with a pair of quick scores. CM’s Addie Jeffery hit a key three-pointer with 3:52 left in the quarter, but Mater Dei answered right back when Addison Ringwald connected from beyond the arc. CM still held a 43-36 lead heading into the fourth.
“A win is a win,” Durbin said. “We have to learn that when we get up like that, we need to keep pushing and stay aggressive, but I’m proud of how we finished.”
In the final quarter, CM outscored Mater Dei 15-14 to seal the 58-50 victory.
Marley Ogden led Civic Memorial with 20 points and was named the game’s MVP. Addie Jeffery and Belle Edwards added 11 points each.
Mater Dei was led by Addison Ringwald with 12 points.
