GRANITE CITY - Edwardsville wrestlers won five weight classes, while the host Warriors won two classes, with the Tigers advancing eight to the sectional meet, and Granite sending three as Edwardsville ran away with the IHSA girls wrestling regional title over the weekend at Granite City Memorial Gym.
The Tigers took the tournament with 222.5 points, with Collinsville a distant second at 135 points, Cahokia came in third at 111 points, in fourth place was Belleville West at 108.5 points, and Triad rounded out the top five with 108 points. Granite was seventh with 93 points, Waterloo was eighth with 87.5 points, Freeburg finished ninth at 72 points in 10th place was Mascoutah at 62.5 points, O'Fallon was 16th with 47 points, Belleville East came in 18th at 39 points, Belleville Althoff Catholic was right behind in 19th place with 38.5 points, East St. Louis came in 20th with 32 points, Highland placed 25th with 14.5 points, and both Breese Central and Red Bud failed to score.
Althoff will bring one wrestler to the sectional in Baileigh Self, who finished second at 115 pounds, losing the final to Genevieve Dykstra of Edwardsville 5-1, while East will send Lamia Irby at 130 pounds, who finished third to qualify, winning her final match over Joelene Nappier-Feth of Marion by fall at 4:59. The Maroons will be sending four to the sectional, starting with Alyssa Hard at 140 pounds, who won the third-place bout over Sophia Elkins of Highland by fall at 3:23, with Andre'a Kirkpatrick finishing second at 235 pounds, losing the final to Triad's Beckah Burrlesman 5-0, Brooke Stellhorn finishing second at 190 pounds losing in the final to Victoria White of Edwardsville 10-1, and Riley Weems at 110 pounds, who finished third and advanced to state with a pin of Kishelle Gray of Marion at 2:30.





Breese Central failed to advance any of their wrestlers to the sectional, while Dakota Bell of Cahokia finished second at 125 pounds, losing the final to Collinsville's Londyn Long by fall at 1:07, while Janylah Holman qualified with a third place finish at 110 pounds, winning over Getta Jonardhan of Edwardsville by fall at 1:25, Te'Aja Young won the 130 pound division, taking the title over Brooklyn Alldredge of Edwardsville by technical superiority 17-2 at 4:29, and Gabrielle Connor finished fourth at 235 pounds, losing the third place match to Kiowa Quillen of Johnston City by fall at 57 seconds, and Kamryn Brown advanced with a fourth place finish at 150 pounds, losing the third place bout to Izabelle McBride of Waterloo by technical superiority 15-0 at 2:31.
The Kahoks' Addyson Bailey won the 135-pound class with a pin of Jacee Mardirosian of Carterville at 1:18, while Ivana Torres finished second at 110 pounds, losing in the final to Edwardsville's Adleigh DeWerff 6-3, Long won at 145 pounds, and Leann Cory won the 145-pound division by pinning Kyla Ford of Carbondale at 1:17. Dupo did not advance any wrestlers to the sectional, while East Side will be sending Jariyah Powell at 140 pounds, who finished second at the class, losing the final by fall to Audrey Barnes of Granite at 1:55,
DeWerff won the 110-pound class for the Tigers, Allie Chong finished second at 120 pounds, falling to Alauni Muex of Marion in the final 10-2, Alldrege finished second at 130 pounds, Emma Hayes won the 105-pound division with a win by fall over Brielle Becker of Freeburg by technical superiority 18-0 at 2:57, Dykstra won the 115-pound class, Maddy Allen won the 100-pound division by winning her final bout over Jhayla Lawson of Mascoutah by fall at 3:05, Olive Lindhorst finished third at 125 pounds, qualifying for the sectional with a win by fall over Zoey Nelson of Mascoutah at 1:05, White won the 190-pound division, and Jonardhan was fourth at 170 pounds.
The Midgets will send Becker through at 105 pounds, and Grace Stratton of 155 pounds, winning the championship over Nahima Mateo of Murphysboro by fall at 44 seconds. The Warriors advanced Audrey Barnes at 140 pounds, while Demi Barnes won the 170-pound title, defeating Kira Thompson of O'Fallon by fall at 5:49, and Ma'Kayla Bonner finished third at 115 pounds, advancing to the sectional with a pin of Trinity Phelps of Benton at 1:03. Highland advanced Elkins to the sectional at 140 pounds, while the Indians saw Lawson go through at 100 pounds, Shayla Garner finished third at 105 pounds, advancing by technical superiority over Morgan Adams of Benton 18-0 at 3:01 and Nelson go through at 125 pounds.
Thompson was the only wrestler going through for the Panthers, while Adalia Roth finished fourth for the Knights, losing the third place bout to Josselin Mateo of Murphysboro by fall at 36 seconds, Burrlesman winning at 235 pounds, Kaitlin Wood placed third at 155 pounds, winning over Addison Mabry of Benton by fall at 64 seconds, and Makenna Steele finished third at 135 pounds, winning her final bout over Madelyn Edler of Waterloo by fall at 52 seconds. McBride at 190 pounds, and Eder at 135 pounds will represent Waterloo in the sectional.
The qualifiers will compete at the sectional tournament at Virden North Mac next Friday, Feb. 13, with the state finals going on Feb. 27-28 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
