Stillwater Senior Living Female Athletes Of The Month: Three Granite City Girls Wrestlers Advance to Sectional Competition

GRANITE CITY - Granite City Wrestling’s Lady Warriors hosted a girls regional tournament over the weekend, facing large brackets in a 29-team field and finishing seventh as a team while advancing three wrestlers to next weekend’s sectional competition in Virden at North Mac.

The team said the regional gave the Lady Warriors “the opportunity to host girls regionals this weekend,” adding that “every girl fought extremely hard.” Granite City's coaching staff reported that three athletes qualified to move on to sectionals.

Audrey Barnes and Demi Barnes each received first place in the Granite City Regional. Kayla Bonner received third place. Lelynn Kelly earned an alternate spot.

The Granite City girls are Stillwater Senior Living Female Athletes of the Month.

“As well we were able to get 3 girls to move on to compete at sectionals at North Mac, next weekend,” the coaching staff said. “Let's keep up the good work girls!”
