CM Girls Wrestling Advances Seven To Sectional, Skiles Leads Roxana's Three Qualifiers

Alton, Jersey, Southwestern advance wrestlers, Eagles nipped by Springfield for ISD Regional crown.

JACKSONVILLE - Civic Memorial won two weight classes and advanced seven to the sectional, while Alton and Southwestern advanced one wrestler each to the sectional, Roxana put through all three of their wrestlers. Jersey also advanced one as the Eagles just missed winning the team title at the IHSA girls wrestling Illinois School for the Deaf regional over the weekend in Jacksonville.

Springfield edged out CM for first place, 126.5-125.5 points to win the crown, while Chatham Glenwood was third with 101 points, Jacksonville High was fourth with 83.5 points, and the Shells rounded out the top five with 57 points. Carlinville was 12th with 28 points, the Redbirds came in 13th with 23 points, the Panthers were 16th with 17 points, and Southwestern placed 24th with four points.

All three of Roxana's wrestlers advanced to the sectional, starting with Chloe Skiles winning the 110-pound division, taking the final by fall over Leena Cavender of Jacksonville at 36 seconds, while Madelyn Murphy won the 105-pound title over Chloe Collins of Stanford Olympia by fall at 2:17, and Sidney Ufert finished fourth at 130 pounds, losing the third place match to Alliyah Powell of Springfield by technical superiority 15-0 at 3:29.

Alton put through Aryanna Jones at 125 pounds, winning the title bout over Clair Shaw of the Eagles by fall at 4:45, while Audrey Whipple finished second for CM at 170 pounds, losing the final to Brynn Swyers of Vandalia by fall at 1:46, Averi Lowe finished fourth at 110 pounds, losing the third place match by fall to Alina Edwards of Springfield at 3:01, Chloe Rice won the tile at 135 pounds, winning the final over Madison Brewer of Glenwood by fall at 2:38, Shaw finished second at 125 pounds, Izabella Darr won the title at 155 pounds, winning over Viola Gray of Vandalia 8-6, Laila Earney placed second at 120 pounds, losing the final to Olivia Jarrett of the Titans by fall, and Tamari Price finished fourth at 100 pounds, losing the third place match to Kadi WIlbern of Glenwood by fall at 30 seconds.

Abbie Heusing will be the only Carlinville wrestler to advance to the sectional by finishing second at 235 pounds, losing the final to Madeleine Cooley of Jacksonville by fall at 1:53, while Jersey will be represented by Skyler Howell at 155 pounds, finishing third at 155 pounds, winning her final bout over Libby Scheland of Petersburg PORTA by fall at 54 seconds. The only wrestler for the Piasa Birds, Mikayla Means, finished third at 235 pounds, winning her final bout over Sophia Brown of Shelbyville by medical forfeit.

The qualifiers will be competing in the sectional at Virden North Mac next Friday, Feb. 13, with the state finals set for Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington Feb. 27-28.
