
EDWARDSVILLE - Host Edwardsville had three champions and qualified seven wrestlers for the state tournament, while Belleville East will send two and Alton one in the results of the IHSA Class 3A boys wrestling sectional tournament, which took place over the weekend at Lucco-Jackson Gym in Edwardsville.
No team scores were kept, as the state team title is decided by a dual meet tournament, which will take place Feb. 27-28 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington. The top four finishers in each weight class move on to the state individual finals at State Farm Center on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana.

The Redbirds will have Brayden Drew as their only representative at 165 pounds, finishing fourth after losing the third-place bout to Aiden Brown of Joliet West 10-1, while Jacob Sutphin was eliminated at 138 pounds by Eric Haselton on New Lenox Lincoln-Way Central by fall at 44 seconds. The Lancers will send Jackson Schadegg at 113 pounds, finishing third at winning his final bout over Kellen Hack of New Lenox Lincoln-Way West by technical superiority 18-1 at 3:00, and Jonathan Rulo, who won the 285-pound division over Aiden Hennings of Lincoln-Way Central by fall at 13 seconds.
Belleville West's Cooper Boron missed out on state at 126 pounds, losing his final match to Kylin King of Richton Park Rich Township by technical superiority 17-2 at 2:42, while Isiah Bush failed to qualify at 175 pounds. losing his final bout to Myles Greenfield of Belleville East by fall at 4:31. Collinsville's Anthony Brown failed to qualify at157 pounds, losing his last match to Max Mularz of Frankfort Lincoln-Way East by fall at 1:50, while teammate Jordan Thigpen missed out at 126 pounds, losing to Bryson Nurralll of Edwardsville in his final match by technical superiority 15-0 at 3:33.
Bryson Hill-Lomax finished third at 285 pounds to qualify for the Tigers, winning his final bout over Mason Caraway of Normal Community 5-4, while Nuttall finished fourth at 126 pounds, losing his final match to Aiden Durrell of Plainfield North by fall at 3:35. Michael McNamara won the title at 106 pounds over Jackson Soney of Normal Community 1-0, while Roman Janek won the crown at 215 pounds, winning over Mason Bucon of Plainfield South 12-3, Ryan Richie won the title at 144 pounds, winning the final over Kaidge Richardson of Lincoln-Way East 5-0, Simon Schulte finished fourth at 190 pounds, dropping the third place match to Brock Janeczko of Yorkville 9-7, and Timothy Swain finished fourth at 120 pounds, losing the third place match Landon Jenkins of Yorkville 14-7. O'Fallon's lone wrestler, Ahmed Al-Janabi at 150 pounds, was eliminated in his final match by Dawson Mack of Joliet Catholic Academy by fall at 1:12.
The state finals will be held at State Farm Center on Feb. 19-21, with the team state finals set for Feb. 27-28 in Bloomington.
