EAST ST. LOUIS - The Illinois State Board of Education has named Lashaunda Ross, a counselor at Annette Officer Elementary School in East St. Louis School District 189, as a recipient of the Award of Excellence in the Those Who Excel 2026 program, the district announced.
The Award of Excellence honors educators who demonstrate “an unwavering commitment to equity and the success of all students,” according to the district’s statement. The recognition is given to recipients who “foster positive school cultures, build meaningful partnerships with families and colleagues, and inspire others within and beyond their schools.”
East St. Louis School District 189 said Ross was selected for her work supporting students’ “academic, social, and emotional growth.”
“Ms. Ross’s dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students exemplifies excellence in action,” the district said. “Her leadership, compassion, and commitment to equity make a lasting difference in our school community every day.”
The district called the recognition “well-deserved” and encouraged the community to congratulate Ross.
