During the Board’s regular meeting on Feb. 17, 2026, Choir Director Leah Galbraith and Assistant Band Director Chuck Willard introduced several students who received honors through the Illinois Music Education Association. These students performed at the ILMEA All-State festival in late January.
“ILMEA All-State is the highest level of student musical achievement,” Galbraith explained. “In Illinois, students audition against thousands of their peers from across the state, and only the top 2% are selected.”
AHS students Aiden McGiffen, Elias Meydam, Evelyn Terpening and Preston Watson were chosen for the ILMEA All-State Honors Choir.
Students Quinn Holliday and Wesley LeBrun were named to the ILMEA All-State Honors Band.
Makayla Burns and Erick Humphrey received recognition through the ILMEA All-State Orchestra.
Austin Koller was named to the ILMEA All-State Honors Orchestra.
Students performed before the Board of Education meeting, showcasing their musical talents to the community. Galbraith and Willard noted the value of musical education and the impressive skills of the Alton High School students.
“ILMEA All-State participation reflects not only musical excellence, but the kinds of skills we value across our district: commitment, teamwork and perseverance,” Galbraith added. “We are extremely proud of our students and would not have our quality music program without the tremendous support and encouragement from the Alton District Board of Education, administration, and our parents and the community.”
