ST. LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County Police detectives are investigating the death of an adult man after an officer-involved shooting early Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, when officers responding to a reported assault encountered an armed man at a home in Overland, Mo.
Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are handling what authorities described as an “officer-involved shooting and death investigation” in the 9400 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue. The incident began about 2:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, when Overland Police Department officers responded to a reported assault at that location.

Police made contact nearby with the victim, who told officers his roommate had assaulted him, authorities said.
An officer then went to the residence and saw an adult male standing outside with a weapon, according to police. The officer heard a gunshot, and the suspect went into the residence. An officer-in-need-of-aid call was initiated for an armed and “possibly barricaded” suspect, and responding officers positioned themselves near the home to contain the suspect, police said.
At about 2:55 a.m. Friday, officers saw the suspect break a window and “flourish a weapon from inside the home,” authorities said. A Woodson Terrace police officer fired his service weapon.
The St. Louis County Police Tactical Operations Unit and the Crisis Negotiations Team responded and attempted to contact the suspect, but “were met with negative results,” police said.
Just after 5:30 a.m., Tactical Operations Unit officers entered the residence and found the suspect dead inside, according to authorities.
No officers were physically injured, police said. The victim from the initial assault call suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
The Overland Police Department requested that St. Louis County Police Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives assume responsibility for the case, authorities said.
Police said the Woodson Terrace officer involved is 29 years old and has eight years of experience in law enforcement.
“This is an active investigation, and preliminary details could change,” police said, adding that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
