After assisting at a house fire in East Alton Sunday afternoon, the Rosewood Heights Fire Department was dispatched at 1:45 a.m. Monday to a reported fire in a detached garage in the 100 block of Bender Avenue.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they reported the garage was fully involved, with flames spreading to a nearby house and a vehicle. A box alarm was requested, bringing mutual aid from the Cottage Hills Fire Department, East Alton Fire Department, and Wood River Fire Department, while the Bethalto Fire Department moved up to cover the Rosewood Heights station.
The first arriving engine company immediately began attacking the fire, while a second engine laid a supply line. Crews split their efforts, with firefighters knocking down the heavy fire in the garage as additional crews stretched a hose line into the house to stop the flames from spreading further.
No injuries were reported.
The detached garage was declared a total loss. However, firefighters were able to limit damage to the home to one rear exterior corner, preventing more significant destruction.
