
ALTON - On February 17, 2026, the Alton Community Unit School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of two outstanding educational leaders who will strengthen the support systems for students, staff and families across the district. These appointments come as the district honors the retirement of the current Alton Middle School Athletic Director Scott Harper and prepares for the transition as Special Education Supervisor Angela Kuchnicki moves into the role of Director of Student Services at the end of the school year.

Jalen Williams Named Alton Middle School Athletic Director and Dean of Students
Mr. Jalen Williams has been appointed Alton Middle School Athletic Director and Dean of Students. Mr. Williams has served for the past four years as a Physical Education and Health teacher as well as Athletic Director at Pontiac Junior High School, where he has demonstrated a strong commitment to student wellness, positive athletic experiences, and character development.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in K-12 Physical Education from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. In December of 2025, he graduated from Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Missouri, and is expecting his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Williams was selected based on his experience and his emphasis on teamwork, leadership and academic accountability to help student athletes become the best version of themselves. He brings experience scheduling competitions, assigning officials, coordinating transportation and managing game day operations. He will also oversee budgets, equipment, and facilities while ensuring eligibility compliance.
At Alton Middle School, Mr. Williams will also mentor coaches and maintain strong communication with students and families. His previous experience coaching football and track will be an asset to Redbird athletic programs.
“I am passionate about helping students grow in confidence, accountability, and community,” said Williams. “I look forward to supporting Redbird student athletes both in the classroom and in competition.”
Mrs. Himmelberg Named Supervisor of Special Education
Mrs. Hilary Himmelberg has been appointed Supervisor of Special Education, bringing a strong background in instructional leadership, compliance, and inclusive practices that support all students.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Special Education, and a Specialist degree in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
In 2024, she was appointed Assistant Principal at Alton Middle School, where she oversees the educational program for approximately 400 students, managing daily schedules, discipline systems and operational support for sixth and seventh grades. She serves as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for special programming to ensure students are best served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Mrs. Himmelberg collaborates with related service providers, school psychologists and families to support students. She provides leadership in behavior supports, inclusive practices and data informed decision making to provide equitable access to education.
“I am committed to ensuring all students receive equitable access to high quality instruction, support, and services,” said Himmelberg.
The district looks forward to the positive impact both administrators will have in their new roles.
