ALTON – The Alton Amphitheater seeks to expand its event offerings for 2026 with a new production company and a newly appointed member.
At the Feb. 23, 2026 Committee of the Whole meeting, Rob Honke with the Alton Amphitheater Commission announced the group’s plans to partner with a new production company as part of their efforts to revitalize the venue.
Honke said the Amphitheater Commission is developing a new long-term strategy, shifting from “auto-pilot” to a more “intentional” approach to drive tourism and community engagement. He also said the venue is seeking to expand its offerings while supporting its mainstay events for the 2026 season.
“We want the amphitheater to feel active and alive again – not just a venue that waits for events, but a vibrant gathering place for residents and a destination that draws visitors in,” Honke said. “As we build momentum, you’ll see more variety, some thoughtful experimentation, and a strong focus on local talent and partnerships.”
To that end, Honke said the Alton Amphitheater Commission is requesting the city’s permission to partner with Contemporary Productions as its new production company. Honke praised Contemporary Productions for its experience and ability to organize large-scale events, as well as the Alton roots of the company’s vice president.
A resolution authorizing the Amphitheater Commission to partner with Contemporary Productions will be considered at the next Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026, followed by final City Council consideration on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
