ALTON/GODFREY – Two local residents face felony charges in separate Madison County cases of domestic battery.

Elijah J. Green, 27, of Alton, was charged on Feb. 20, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery. Green allegedly knowingly committed an act of domestic battery on July 20, 2025, causing great bodily harm to a household or family member.
The Alton Police Department presented the case against Green, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial court appearance.
A Godfrey resident was charged separately on Feb. 17, 2026 in another felony domestic battery case. 32-year-old Matthew A. Peake of Godfrey faces a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery and a Class A misdemeanor count of domestic battery.
Both charges stem from an incident on Feb. 16, 2026, when Peake is accused of knowingly causing bodily harm to a household or family member by committing an act of domestic battery.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office presented the case against Peake, who was ordered released from custody pending trial with additional conditions.
Under the conditions of his release, Peake has been ordered to have no contact with the victim in this case and remain at least 500 feet away from them at all times. He was also ordered not to possess any firearms while on pretrial release and to surrender and firearms and/or Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card in his possession to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
