CHICAGO — March is recognized nationwide as Problem Gambling Awareness Month, an annual observance dedicated to increasing public understanding of problem gambling and promoting resources for those seeking support. This Problem Gambling Awareness Month, the Illinois Lottery is once again partnering with the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling (ICPG) to elevate awareness of prevention, treatment, and recovery services available statewide.

“Together with ICPG and our nearly 7,000 retail partners, we are committed to providing our players the information they need to play responsibly,” said Harold Mays, Director of the Illinois Lottery. “Lottery games are meant to provide entertainment and a chance to win while generating funding for K-12 public education and special causes across Illinois. Promoting responsible play is essential to fulfilling that mission.”

National Problem Gambling Awareness Month is led by the National Council on Problem Gambling and unites public health professionals, advocacy organizations, treatment providers, and gaming operators in a coordinated effort to expand awareness and access to care. The campaign reinforces a clear message: recovery is possible, and help is available.

Throughout March, the Illinois Lottery will share responsible gaming information through a comprehensive, statewide campaign spanning radio, outdoor advertising, digital and social media, and in-store engagement with players and retailers.

“With the expansion of gambling options, recognizing the signs of problem gambling is more important than ever,” said Dave Wohl, Executive Director of ICPG. “No one has to navigate this challenge alone. Free and confidential support is available around the clock for Illinois residents.”

The Illinois Lottery’s 2026 campaign theme — “Don’t Struggle in Silence: Call 1-800-GAMBLER” — aims to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations, and connect individuals and families impacted by gambling-related harm with the services they need.

Anyone seeking assistance for themselves or a loved one can call 1-800-GAMBLER for immediate support. The helpline is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, offering information, referrals, and connections to counseling services. Help is also available via live chat at AreYouReallyWinning.com or by texting “GAMB” to 833234.

Players can find additional tips and tools to help maintain healthy play habits by visiting the Responsible Gaming section of the Illinois Lottery website.

The Illinois Lottery is proud to have achieved Level 4 Responsible Gaming certification—the highest distinction awarded by the World Lottery Association under its Responsible Gaming Framework—demonstrating its ongoing commitment to player protection and responsible gaming leadership. Illinois is one of only eight U.S. lotteries to achieve this distinction.
