Rubio’s Circular Logic on Iran Strike Draws Sharp Rebuke From Sen. Duckworth

On MS NOW’s The Rachel Maddow Show last night, combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) slammed Donald Trump for having no clear justification or end-state for his unlawful war of choice against Iran that has already tragically taken the lives of six U.S. servicemembers. 1. “What they’re telling me makes absolutely no sense. Rubio basically said, ‘Well, we knew that [Iran] would hit us if somebody else hit them, so we hit them first so that they don’t hit us second.’ It’s circular logic. And remember that just a couple of days ago, Trump said, ‘They’re going to develop nuclear weapons.’ And this was just a couple of weeks after he said, ‘Oh, no, we destroyed their nuclear program. We annihilated it.’ So, which is it? What is the imminent threat under Article I of our Constitution that justifies him doing this? This is Trump thumping his chest. He’s playing to his oil interests and trying to distract the American people from the economy and the Epstein files. And he’s using the lives of our brave men and women in uniform to do it.”

1. “I don’t know if my Republican colleagues are going to grow a spine any time soon. They’ve all become invertebrates…We’ve already lost six American servicemembers’ lives, and so many more are in harm’s way right now. I hope that they hold their oath of office dearer to their hearts than they do Donald Trump…but we should have this debate on the [Senate] floor. The least we can do is our job. We certainly are expecting our servicemen and women to do their jobs.”

1. “We have the least qualified Secretary of Defense in our nation’s history. I don’t think they understand what they have done here. They’ve created a power vacuum in Iran. Our adversaries like the PRC, Russia and all these organized terrorist organizations now have an opening. Our friends and allies in the region are being hit now. We’ve got oil tankers being hit. This is going to, and has already, started spiraling out of out of control.”
