Father McGivney Catholic Math Team Sets New School Record

GLEN CARBON - Father McGivney Catholic High School’s math team won the overall Class A Regional Championship on Feb. 28, 2026, at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Competition held at Southwestern Illinois College.

The team victory marked the first time in school history that the Griffins have claimed the regional math title.

The team competed against Althoff, Carlinville, Carlyle, Carrollton, Gibault, Marissa, Nokomis, Red Bud, and Wesclin.

According to the school, the Griffins’ win included multiple first- and second-place individual finishes in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II and Pre-Calculus, along with top team finishes in the 2-Person events, 8-Person Frosh/Soph and Jr/Sr competitions, and a second-place Calculator Team finish.

Father McGivney Catholic also thanked Math Department instructors and team sponsors Laura Mannisi, Rich Mertens and Marta Savorani for their contributions.
