Club President Mark Smith presented Service Above Self certificates to Eads and Smith, according to the Rotary Club.
Eads, a senior, has participated in volleyball and track and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has also been involved in Student Council for all four years of high school and has served as vice president of the National Honor Society.
To Eads, “Service Above Self” means “providing others with whatever they need and placing those needs above her own.” The Rotary Club said she has volunteered for Kids Christmas, the Junior Olympics and fundraising drives. Her advice to younger students: “Join as many organizations as you can that deal with community service; it gives you more opportunities to help more people.”
Smith, also a senior, is involved in soccer, Student Council, Chamber Choir and the marching band. The Rotary Club said his volunteer work includes playing music for residents at Stillwater Senior Home, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, sorting clothes for the Family Resource Center, and serving as a tech assistant for the junior high musical. He has also helped with Freshman Orientation and volunteered for the Hope Center.
To Smith, “Service Above Self” is “an active pursuit of putting others first and encouraging those around him to reach their highest potential.” He advised younger students, “Volunteer with things you enjoy. Enjoying what you do leads to greater joy with those you help.”
