St. Clair County 2026 Primary Elections Preview

BELLEVILLE – St. Clair County voters face a somewhat light ballot this election cycle, with only one contested county-level race set for the March 17, 2026 primaries.

Contested Race For County Sheriff

The only contested primary race facing St. Clair County voters this election is the race for County Sheriff.

Incumbent Sheriff Richard “Rick” Watson faces challenger Edgar Ellis in the Democratic primary race for sheriff. With no Republican candidates having filed, the nominee will run unopposed in the November general elections.

Uncontested Races

County Clerk – Democrat Laura Kaemmerer and Republican Gary Hursey are both running unopposed to become their party’s nominee for County Clerk and are set to face each other in the November general elections. The winner will replace incumbent County Clerk Thomas Holbrook, who did not seek re-election.

County Treasurer – Incumbent Democrat Andrew Lopinot and Republican Myki Rhodes are both running unopposed to become their party’s nominee for County Treasurer and are set to face each other heading into November.

County Board of Review – Incumbent Democrat Irma G. Golliday and Republican Brian Triska are both running unopposed in their party’s primary races and will face each other in the November race for a seat on the County Board of Review.

County Assessor – Incumbent Democrat Jennifer Gomric-Minton is running unopposed to become her party’s nominee for County Assessor and will seek re-election unopposed in November.
