
ALTON - The Alton Police Department has awarded Telecommunicator Gina Fisher a Life Saving Award after officials said she guided a parent through CPR instructions during a 9-1-1 call that helped revive a 3-year-old child on Dec. 13, 2025, in Alton.

According to the Alton Police Department, a distraught parent called 9-1-1 after finding their child unconscious and not breathing. Fisher answered the call and provided the department's description of calm, clear CPR instructions, guiding the parent “through every critical moment.”
The department said the child began breathing again, giving paramedics time to arrive and provide further medical care.
The Alton Police Department called Fisher’s performance “nothing short of exceptional."
"Telecommunicator Fisher's actions were the difference between life and death for a young child," the police department added.
The Alton Police Department concluded with this statement about Gina Fisher: "Our telecommunicators are the first of the first responders. They hear families at their most vulnerable — experiencing fear, grief, and heartbreak — every single day.”
