During the primary election on March 17, 2026, incumbent Charlie Meier ran against his challenger Zachary Meyer for the Republican nomination. Meier took 62.2% of votes while Meyer received 37.8% of votes.

Meier has held this seat since 2013. The 109th District includes Highland, Marine, Troy, and parts of Edwardsville.
