FERGUSON, MO. - Prosecutors in St. Louis County have filed first-degree murder and other charges against an 18-year-old man in the fatal shooting of a Lyft driver in Ferguson, Missouri, a case investigators say stemmed from an ongoing feud involving the rider passengers.
The victim was later identified as Shannon O’Brien, 28, of the 4300 block of De Tonty Street in St. Louis, police said. O'Brien was an Edwardsville High School graduate and was once a member of the Tigers' girls cross country team.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said Tuesday, March 17, 2026, that Noah Johnson, 18, of the 5800 block of Nashville Avenue in St. Louis, was charged March 17, 2026, with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and aiding and abetting a person discharging or shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle resulting in physical injury or death. Johnson is being held on a $750,000, cash-only bond with no 10% option, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Authorities said the homicide occurred Jan. 30, 2026, in the 1700 block of Windward Court in Ferguson, when officers responded just before 4 p.m. to a call for shots fired. Police said an adult female was found with at least one apparent gunshot injury and died at the scene.
According to the probable cause statement, officers responding to a shooting in progress found the victim inside the driver’s seat of a blue Hyundai Elantra suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators said individuals in a red Chevy Malibu fired shots at the Elantra.
Police said the victim was a Lyft driver who had arrived at the address to drop off three individuals. After interviewing one of the individuals who fled from the Elantra and obtaining consent to search the person’s phone, investigators determined Johnson was a suspect, the statement said.
A review of nearby footage showed a person matching Johnson’s description and prior booking photos was one of the shooters, according to the probable cause statement. After being brought in for questioning and advised of his rights, Johnson confessed to being one of the shooters involved from the Malibu, the statement said. The interview also indicated the three passengers in the Elantra were the intended targets due to an ongoing feud, according to the statement.
St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are handling the investigation.
Johnson is the fourth arrest announced in the case. Police previously said a 17-year-old male suspect was arrested March 5, 2026, and remanded to the custody of the St. Louis County Family Court for second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Police also reported arrests of a 16-year-old male suspect on Feb. 13, 2026, and a 17-year-old male suspect on Feb. 1, 2026, each remanded to Family Court on the same charges.
