Alton School District Approves New Student Transportation Plan

Alton schools pick new bus provider for 2026-27.

ALTON - The Alton School District has announced a new plan for student transportation beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the ACUSD Board of Education unanimously approved a five year agreement with Robinson Transport Incorporated, marking a transition from the district’s current transportation provider, Illinois Central.

The decision followed a competitive bidding process, in which Robinson Transport Inc. stood out for its strong pricing package and outstanding references from current district partners.

Robinson Transport is a family owned company based in Southern Illinois with a corporate office located in Harrisburg, Illinois. Founded in July 2000 by David and Joyce Robinson, both of whom have been involved in the school transportation industry since 1979, the company brings decades of experience. David Robinson has more than 50 years of mechanical repair, maintenance, and budgeting. Joyce Robinson has over 40 years of driving and routing experience.

Today the company is led by CEO Eric Robinson, who has 26 years of student transportation management experience, along with a strong background in mechanical operations. Robinson Transport currently serves 29 school districts across Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri, operating a fleet of 335 buses and employing approximately 380 staff members.
