EDWARDSVILLE - The Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Habitat for Humanity Board inquired with Edwardsville Township in 2025 to express interest in the vacant lot in hopes of building a home for a deserving family. Edwardsville Township did not have any plans nor resources to develop a project on the vacant parcel located at 216 Crane St., Edwardsville, IL 62025 which is the former site of the Hays-Mallory Community Building. On November 17, 2025, Edwardsville Township held a Special Town Meeting to include a Motion to Approve Resolution 2025-R01-STM – Declaring a Vacant Parcel of Edwardsville Township Real Property as Surplus and Authorizing the Donation to a Not-For-Profit Corporation.
Accordingly, on November 18, 2025, the Edwardsville Township Board of Trustees voted to approve Resolution No. 2025-R33 – Declaring a Vacant Parcel of Edwardsville Township Real Property as Surplus and Directing the Donation to a Not-For-Profit which passed by a majority vote.

Furthermore, on February 17, 2026, Township Supervisor Haroian Township & Township Administrator Ayers met with Tangela Johnson, President of the Lewis & Clark Chapter of Habitat for Humanity & Rich Hampton, President of the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chapter of Habitat for Humanity to finalize the property transfer donation.
“Edwardsville Township aims to do its part in the spirit of community to support H4H’s mission. This kind gesture will pay it forward and prove to be an enhancement to the community while providing a home for a deserving family,” said Township Supervisor Janet Haroian.
