East Alton Firefighters Stop Garage Fire from Spreading

East Alton firefighters responded to a fire caused by debris burning that threatened a garage, halting the flames rapidly with coordinated efforts.

EAST ALTON — Firefighters from East Alton and neighboring departments responded Saturday afternoon to a fire in the 300 block of Church Street after debris being burned in a yard appeared to spread to the eaves of a garage, according to East Alton Fire Chief Jeremy Dively.

Dively said the homeowner called quickly, allowing crews to stop the fire before it spread through the entire garage.

“It apears someone was burning debris in the yard and the fire made it to the eaves of the garage,” Dively said. “The homeowner called us quickly and we were able to get a stop on the fire before it spread to the whole garage.”

A box alarm was requested, and East Alton, Wood River and Rosewood Heights responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.
