Hunter Baugh Has Two Hits For Edwardsville Baseball, But New Trier Scores Four Runs In Fifth, Wins Over Tigers 7-3

Despite Baugh's two hits and an RBI in solid performance, Edwardsville drops game 7-3 against New Trier at Tom Pile Field Saturday morning.

EDWARDSVILLE - Edwardsville was held to only two hits, both by Hunter Baugh, and allowed a four-run fifth inning as Winnetka New Trier won over the Tigers 7-3 in a game of the Illinois Prep Baseball Report kickoff showcase Saturday morning, March 21, 2026, at Tom Pile Field.

The Tigers only took one of the first three games in the opening stretch of the season, Thursday over East Moline United 13-3, and are now 1-2 to start off the season.

The Trevians scored first in the top of the third inning, starting with a one-out walk to Mason Bloom, who went to third on a single by Harry Resis, and scored on a RBI single by Chase Estrada to give New Trier the lead at 1-0. Another RBI single by Estrada scored Bloom to make it 2-0, and John Ryder delivered the big blow, a three-run homer over the fence in left, Resis and Estrada scoring ahead of Ryder to make it 5-0.

In the sixth, Estrada doubled to left, scoring Austin LeBoyer and Bloom to make it 7-0, while the Trevian pitching was holding the Tigers in check. Edwardsville finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh, everything happening with two out. Aiden May was hit by a pitch, and both Rhys Gierich and Sam Noascomo drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Andrew McCutchen walked with the bases loaded to force home May, Gierich scored on a wild pitch, and Baugh singled home Hampton to make he score 7-3, but Joe Kirgan grounded out to end the game in favor of he Trevians.

Baugh had two hits and an RBI for Edwardsville, with McCutchen also having an RBI. Baugh started on the mound, and was charged with the loss, giving up an earned run on five hits, walking two and striking out five, while Nathan Bukovac went 1.1 innings, allowing three earned nus on four hits, walking one and fanning one, Jax Andreas tossed one inning, allowing three earned runs on four hits, walking one and striking out none, and Calyx Wise pitched one inning, allowing two hits and struck out one.

New Trier opens their season 1-0, while the Tigers go to 1-2, and play on the road for the first time this season Tuesday afternoon at DeSmet Jesuit in Creve Coeur, Mo., then hosts Granite City on Wednesday, and Francis Howell of Weldon Spring, Mo., in St. Charles County, on Friday, all games set to start at 4:30 p.m.
